Why did you choose to become a hairdresser?
I’ve always loved styling my own hair and trying different things. My Grandparents owned a salon and my Mum and Aunty were both hairdressers. After 8 years in Event Management and realising my heart wasn’t in it anymore I thought it was time to try my hand at hairdressing professionally.
How long have you been hairdressing?
I started my apprenticeship at Lily Jackson in 2015. I’d love to say I’ve been hairdressing my whole life but I had a tomboy sister growing up who wouldn’t let me do her hair at all.
Why have you stuck with it? What’s the best part of your job?
I have stuck with it because I love learning. I want to be the best I can be so that I can help to make people feel great about themselves. They say a hair cut is as good as a holiday.
What are you passionate about outside of hairdressing?
I come from a musical family and I love to sing! I’ve also recently become slightly obsessed with renovating so my poor boyfriend has had a lot of painting to do.
What’s the funniest moment you remember from your career?
It was my first training day at Lily Jackson and Sam was teaching me how to shampoo hair. I was so focused on not wetting my model that I didn’t realise I was wetting Sam. She was soaked! Sorry again Sam!
Do you have any career highlights you’d like to mention?
I was selected as Lead Makeup Artist for the first ever FASHFEST. It is a 4 night fashion event held in Canberra showcasing local and national designers. Each night we had up to 80 models with various looks for each designer. It was a great success and a huge honour to be involved.
What’s your favourite music at the moment?
My taste in music is pretty eclectic and I thank my parents for that. I grew up listening to the likes of Queen, Led Zeppelin and Bad Company. My guilty pleasure though is 90’s R’n’B and ridiculous pop like Hanson and Backstreet Boys. I don’t care what anyone says, Mmmbop is still a banger!!
Do you have a pet?
Unfortunately my apartment doesn’t allow pets
but I get my fix when I go back to Canberra to visit my family. My parents have a farm E-I-E-I-O… We have dogs, cats, horses, sheep and cows. The best visit was after mum’s 2 cats had had a litter of kittens each. I had 14 kittens to occupy myself with.
What the question you get asked the most?
Are you named after Bindi Irwin? Ummm how is that even possible?!?
Why did you choose Lily Jackson Hair & Makeup?
To be the best you need to learn from the best. I feel really lucky to have landed here and have no doubt that, in time, with the help of Jules, my Educator Sam, and the rest of the team at Lily Jackson I will be a great hairdresser. The amount of knowledge and talent that make up this team blows my mind!
