SUMMER MAKE UP PLAY

This Spring/Summer season has not blessed us Sydney locals with the usual non-stop hot summer days and beautiful sultry summer nights. Instead humidity and rainy days seem to be the norm, with only the occasional burst of sunshine. The party season comes rain or shine and we should not let the weather get in the way of our love of fashion and frivolity. Here are some tips about how we can adapt the current makeup trends and incorporate them into our makeup repertoire to make us feel fresh and modern…..

Sydney in summer is largely about combining comfort with fashion; we want to stay cool and comfortable in the heat and humidity without compromising individual style.  Check out my other article No Sticky Make Up Here Honey! for how to keep your makeup looking fresh in hot and humid weather.

TIP 1: EVOLVE YOUR COLOUR CHOICES

The fashion trends that we are seeing so far this year include stripes, bright colours in blocks or floral or tribal patterns, caftans and bright/neon pants and jeans.

Summer dressesSo having fun with colour in fashion totally lends itself to having fun with our make up and pushing the boundaries just a little bit.  The perfect time to do this is if you are wearing something new; it can really make you feel great about the way you look. So take the time to purchase a new eyeliner or punchy lipstick at the same time as putting on your new frock. You will be surprised how a different colour lipstick can brighten up your face.

TIP 2: DON’T TAKE MAKEUP TOO SERIOUSLY!

Allow your make up to have a playful attitude this season and add splashes of colour that put you in a great mood.

We commonly hear that many women tend to get in a rut with their make up routine; choosing the same textured foundation and eye shadow and lipstick colours. Its great if you find something that really works for you, but make up trends and advances in product technology are so frequent, it pays to be open to change and explore your artistic options.

 TIP 3: BE BRONZALICIOUS!

Applied correctly you will look like you’ve been soaking up the sun’s rays! You can go for powders or creams. If you love a light touch and a dewy finish go for a cream base and smooth onto cheekbones from their peak and down to the top of your jawbone. You can also add bronzer to your temples and a little to your nose to even out the glow. The same can be done with powder. Powder will tend to have more staying power and build-ability.

SO……………When you’re next putting on that great new floral or tribal print maxi, buy a new lippy or eyeliner and add a bright lipstick that teams in with the colours of your dress, be it fuchsia pink or bright orange. Be sure to add the signature bronzing and highlighting contours that signify our Sydney summer look. Or, if you are into more pared-back neutrals when it comes to fashion, try a pink or peach of a softer variety on the lips and be sure to make your skin glow with highlighting your cheekbones with a splash of light peach or pink as well, and most importantly HAVE FUN!!
